Through his business he is a voice across the luxury industry when it comes to promoting cleaner practices and adopting new technologies in order to reduce the impact we have on our waters. Athanasios (Thanos) Thanopoulos has been involved in the shipping industry for over 25 years and since 2014 holds the position of Director and CEO of DryLog Ltd. He also serves as a CFO of Ceres Shipping Ltd.

He has 10 years prior experience with a shipowning/shipmanagement group (as a CFO and CEO). He started his career as a shipping banker and has 9 years of experience in ship-finance, working for two different Greek financial institutions.

Mr. Thanopoulos holds an MSc in Shipping Trade & Finance from City University Business School.

He is married and proud father of one daughter.

Franco is currently the CEO and co-founder of a food security startup Grundo GmbH Switzerland. He has been in the technology industry for more than fifteen years, starting his career as a Design Engineer developing automation and robotic systems. He’s worked for internet giants Google and Amazon, as well as the World Economic Forum and researched Data Privacy issues for the European Commission.

Franco works with organisations from Multinational Corporations, Startups, and NGOs in executing high-impact technology-enabled goals. He lives in Spain and spends time hiking, reading and travelling to hidden gems. Franco holds an MPhil in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Management of Technology from the National University of Singapore and an Engineer by training.

Wesley van der Spuy is a qualified solicitor, holding a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University.

Prior to joining Odyssey Marine in 2015, Wesley worked as a solicitor in the areas of general litigation and employee and industrial relations at law firms Dwyer Durack and Freehills. Wesley also worked as a Senior Industrial Relations Consultant and in-house lawyer for the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AMMA), a resource sector employer association, where he provided advice on a broad range of industrial and employee relations matters.

Wesley commenced working with Odyssey Marine in 2015 when he was seconded by AMMA to the former parent company of Odyssey Marine to assist with the management of the company’s industrial relations portfolio.

In 2016, Wesley joined Odyssey Marine as a permanent employee and took up the position of General Manager. During this time, Wesley implemented various initiatives that allowed the company to streamline its operations and improve profitability in line with changing market conditions.

In 2017, Wesley was appointed as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Wesley plans to work with the Odyssey Marine Board to continue investing in the company, its valued personnel and the communities in which the company operates.
